Senior Linux Engineer

Our client is an international organisation based in Basel, operating a modern, mission-critical IT environment with two datacentres (Zurich & Basel). The Infrastructure & Operations team provides stable, secure and highly available systems supporting global business services.

Type: Contracting, 2-year contract

Start: 01.02.2026 (or ASAP)

Workload: 100%

Location: Basel, ~50% onsite

Remote abroad: Up to 20 days per year

On-call: Yes (1 week every 4 weeks)

Travel: Not required

Tasks

• Ensure best-practice operation of core Linux server and infrastructure technologies across multi-site datacentres (Basel & Zurich).
• Maintain and evolve enterprise systems to ensure a secure, stable, and highly available environment.
• Operate and improve the Ansible Automation Platform and the corporate backup platform.
• Support and maintain business-critical infrastructure applications and their dependencies.
• Contribute to forward-looking processes for reliability, performance, and automation.
• Lead, test, coordinate and implement changes (new releases, design upgrades) in collaboration with internal teams and external providers.
• Provide 3rd-level support and participate in on-call duties.

Must Have

• 5+ years as a Systems Engineer with Red Hat Enterprise Linux administration experience.
• Strong expertise in Ansible and Ansible Automation Platform.
• Experience with Red Hat Satellite and Capsules for provisioning and systems management.
• Solid understanding of enterprise backup operations.
• Fluent English (written & spoken).
• Ability to work within formal change management processes.
• Readiness to work during service windows and cover on-call duties.

Nice to Have

• Scripting experience (Python, Bash).
• Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., Checkmk, Prometheus, Grafana).
• Understanding of server, network, database & application dependencies.
• Broad knowledge of IT best practices in enterprise environments.
• Experience participating in IT initiatives and transformation projects.
• Red Hat certifications (RHCSA, RHCE, RHCA).
• Technical degree or diploma.
• Experience in customer & vendor management.
