Job description
Analytical Chemist - Research Scientist 3 position focused on mass spectrometry and structure elucidation. The role involves developing and implementing analytical strategies, applying high-resolution mass spectrometry to challenging problems, and supporting product development projects with state-of-the-art expertise.
Requirements
- Design and implement MS analytical strategies to support product development projects
- Use high-resolution mass spectrometry and advanced software tools to solve complex analytical questions
- Interpret MS data and perform structure elucidation of unknown compounds in reaction masses, active ingredients, and final products
- Advise on and conduct analytical experiments to address structure elucidation questions
- Integrate and interpret data from multiple sources for project teams
- Develop and apply quantitative methodologies to meet project objectives
- Maintain and optimize instruments, ensuring high performance and reliability
- Keep up to date with advances in mass spectrometry, chromatography, and informatics systems
- Propose and implement improvements to enhance team capabilities and system capacity
Competences
- Minimum 5 years’ experience applying mass spectrometry to determine small molecule chemical structures
- MSc degree / Fachhochschulabschluss / Chemielaborant Ausbildung in chemistry or related field
- Strong theoretical understanding of small molecule MS, with practical experience optimizing instruments in industry or research
- Proven experience in liquid chromatography and LC-MS method development
- Established expertise in acquisition and interpretation of complex MS data
- Solid understanding of chemical structures and synthetic chemistry mechanisms
- Ability to prioritize and deliver results under tight deadlines
- Strong team player with excellent communication skills and experience working in multicultural environments
- Fluency in German (min. B2) and English (B2), both spoken and written
- Motivation to continuously learn and keep up to date with spectroscopic science
