Job description
This is an initial contract running for 12 month contract until starting ASAP with possibility to extend on a long term basis (often up to 5 years in total).
As a pivotal member of a small and diverse cross function team in the Risk Department, the Senior Data Analytics Engineer will join a transformation program with the aim of leverage modern data technologies to unlock new capabilities such as real-time streaming and advanced analytics.
We are looking for a Data Analytics Engineer to implement new data sets and migrate existing data sets to our on-premises data lake, which will eventually migrate to the cloud.
This role tackles a range of complex software and data challenges, including data management, advanced analytics, and business intelligence. It is pivotal in implementing, maintaining, and supporting data pipelines using shared data platforms that exploit modern data technologies and software development practices.
Apart from technologies, this role requires continuous collaboration, not just among the team but also outward with expert business analysts, technologists, project managers, and data scientists.
Responsibilities will include:
- Participate and contribute to overall data architecture and design.
- Ensure effective design and development of system architectures through frequent product deliveries, employing effective governance methods for transparency and communication.
- Translate functional and technical requirements into detailed design.
- Develop required code for end-to-end data pipelines with optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources. Incorporate business rules and functional capabilities, security, data retention requirements, etc.
- Work with stakeholders including business area sponsors, product owners, data architects, data engineers, project managers, and business analysts to assist them with their data-related technical issues and support their data needs.
- Remain up to date with industry standards and technological advancements that will improve the quality of your output.
- Interact with the business to identify, capture, and analyse business requirements.
- Assist and support proof of concepts as data technology evolves.
Requirements
We are looking for a Senior Data Analytics Engineer who can take ownership of tasks, deliver stable, incremental changes frequently, and ensure thorough testing to maintain high-quality standards. Financial services experience is a plus, along with the ability to gather requirements from and collaborate with end users.
To be considered for this role, you will possess as many of the following skills as possible:
- Minimum of 7 years of work experience in modern data technologies as a Data Analytics Engineer or similar role.
- Experience in building data ingestion pipelines for data lake and data warehouse architecture. As well as strong experience in data modelling, design patterns, and building highly scalable applications.
- Hands-on development using open-source data technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, Spark, HBase, Kafka, Impala, ELK, etc., preferably with Cloudera.
- Experience working with relational databases such as Oracle, SQL Server, etc.
- Strong experience with Python.
- Proficiency in English
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to explain complex technical concepts in simple terms.
Nice to have:
- Experience with Lakehouse technologies, particularly Apache Iceberg.
- Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Airflow, RunDeck, Nifi, etc.
- Experience with CICD pipelines.
- Experience working in an agile team environment, with a focus on iterative development and continuous improvement
- Experience in Automated Testing, Test-driven Development, debugging, troubleshooting, and optimizing code.
- Some experience with .NET/C# and cloud-based technologies such as Kubernetes, OpenShift.

Please note interviews would be conducted via video call (two stages), however the role is based 100% in Switzerland. Our client offers:
