About the client

As the premier supplier to our international banking client in Basel, Swisslinx are looking for a Workday HCM Technical Lead with HCM implementation experience on Workday to support an HCM modernisation project in a complex enterprise environment.

 

This is a rolling contract running until March 31, 2026, with potential to extend (sometimes up to five years) starting ASAP (no later than September).

 

The HR modernization programme has been in flight for a few years and still has a couple of years to run.

The Technical Lead is a key member of the HR Modernisation (HRM) Programme team. They will lead the development and implementation of the HRM technical solution for the bank, ensuring alignment of Workday technical solution to the architecture, security and technology standards.

 

They will work with stakeholders, with the Functional lead, internal technical teams, and 3rd party resources to implement and configure non-functional and technical aspects of the solution to specifications, design, and target architecture. In addition to the implementation of the core systems within the programme [Workday, ServiceNow and other solutions within the landscape], the Technical Lead will be expected to support integration projects. The successful candidate will have a proven track record implementing Workday from scratch and supporting and operating Workday on a day-to-day basis once it is live. The candidate will also have knowledge of ServiceNow and its usage for HR service management.

 

The Technical lead (a seasoned Solution Architect) will provide guidance to other Solution Architects & Technical analysts assigned to the HR Modernisation Programme. They will provide direction on the technical considerations while designing, configuring, and implementing the technical aspects of Workday, ServiceNow, and related systems within the overall landscape. They will have experience in data analysis, mapping legacy to Workday data model, and in data migration activities.

Job description

Joining a small and diverse team of HR experts, you will be responsible for the following:

 

  • Build strong relationships with business stakeholders, Workday programme technical & functional leads, Security, Data Protection, IT Strategy & Architecture, Platform Services & Service Management, and 3rd Party System Integrators
  • Manage and guide Solution Architects and Technical analysts assigned to the Modernisation programme
  • Act as a “go to” person for technology workstream (Vendor and IT tech experts, Corporate Security experts etc.) during the complete implementation cycle
  • Ensure all the work activities associated with the design, build, testing and implementation of the programme’s technical solution are correctly documented, reviewed and signed off
  • Ensure the design and implementation follows best practices for technical and non-functional requirements
  • Deliver architecture practices for the HRM that are aligned with leading practices, leveraging standard Workday features as opposed to customizations, and always keeping performance, scalability, and cost impact in mind
  • Manage the development of architecture artefacts including the transition from current to target state architecture, reference architecture patterns and technology standards related to Workday & ServiceNow and related systems to be implemented
  • Deliver and report on technical workstream deliverables.
  • Follow existing governance principles across the Workday solution architecture and design decisions to ensure the architecture meets the desired business end state and architecture & security standards.
  • Provide technical guidance to the implementation teams to ensure alignment of the to the overall HRM solution design.
  • Together with the Functional Lead, ensure developed solutions meet business, technical and operational support requirements
  • Provide insights on the current technical architecture and identify any gaps that need to be addressed or updated in the overall HRM solution design
  • Provide architecture support and guidance to the HRM implementation and support teams establishing the future business as usual (BAU)/Target operating model and organization so they may effectively govern and maintain proper controls over the technical architecture & landscape delivered
  • Assist integrating Workday with other systems
  • Participate in the design discussions and architectural decisions
  • Support data analysis and data migration between legacy and Workday / ServiceNow systems
  • Coach and assist colleagues who are less experienced with Workday HCM and ServiceNow HRSD platforms

Requirements

In order to be considered for this role, you will possess the following skills and experience:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Workday Architect, with a proven track record in Workday implementation, defining HR systems technical requirements, and delivering practical solutions.
  • Strong understanding of HR processes and policies, with experience in related systems like ServiceNow and HR service management tools.
  • Expertise in architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF) and multiple IT architecture disciplines (application, integration, infrastructure, and security).
  • Experience in enterprise integration and designing solutions for cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Hands-on experience with complex system implementations and driving business change initiatives to align technical solutions with business goals.
  • Experience with enterprise-scale non-functional/technical testing to ensure system scalability, reliability, and performance.
  • Fluency in English, with the ability to communicate complex technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Nice to have:

  • Workday certification is a strong advantage
  • Experience in technical aspects of Operational design and support
  • Experience with foundational and modern SDLC methods (e.g., Scrum, etc.)
  • Experience defining the data architecture and data migration approach is an advantage
  • Experience integrating Workday with PeopleSoft HCM & Payroll or other HR & Payroll solutions is an advantage
